The former Chelsea striker made the comments following Sarr’s performance for Watford in their 1-1 draw with Leicester City at Vicarage Road in the Premier League at the weekend.
Cascarino believes that the Gunners should have secured the services of the 22-year-old winger last summer before the Senegal international moved to Premier League rivals Watford from French club Rennes in the summer of 2019.
As reported by The Sun, the Hornets paid Rennes a transfer fee of £30 million in order to secure the services of the young winger.
Cascarino wrote in The Times: “Ismaila Sarr’s brilliant season for Watford highlights the muddled recruitment at Arsenal.
“Having shone against Liverpool before lockdown, Sarr gave Ben Chilwell — one of the best left backs in the Premier League — a torrid afternoon during Watford’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City.
“He first caught the eye last season when he starred in a 3-1 victory for Rennes against Arsenal in the Europa League. The 22-year-old winger should have been top of their shopping list.”
