Tony Cascarino has suggested to talkSPORT that Harry Kane has already realised that Tottenham Hotspur aren’t capable of matching his own ambition in football, hinting that he might well quit the club.
Spurs were top of the Premier League at one point in mid-December but fast forward six weeks and Jose Mourinho’s side are now eighth in the table following a horrendous winter period that’s only yielded three wins in this competition.
Tottenham won’t be winning the title this season and won’t be lifting the FA Cup either if Everton beat them at Goodison Park tonight.
The North Londoners are 90 minutes away from ending their 13-year trophy drought after Mourinho led them into the final of the League Cup in April, but Manchester City, who have won their last 14 games, are a huge obstacle for the Lilywhites at Wembley.
Despite this season looking very promising at one point, Mourinho’s side, who are still in the Europa League, could yet finish the campaign with nothing but failure in the trophy stakes.
Kane has been carrying Tottenham for much of the campaign but Cascarino has told talkSPORT that the 27-year-old is coming to an age where he must decide whether he wants to become a one-club legend or a striker that wins the medals that his talent deserves.
He said: “He’s 28 in July and Beckham went to Real Madrid at 28 – I think he’s going to look at his team. What has he won? The answer is nothing. He’s won lots of accolades for his individual achievements.
“The bottom line for Harry is does he want to be Tottenham’s greatest player ever? Is that his main goal? I don’t think so. I think he’s far more ambitious than that. Don’t think winning the League Cup is going to keep Harry Kane. I think it’s challenging for the biggest honours in the world.
“Does he see that at Tottenham? I would say, at a guess, probably not.”
