Could Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford become Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane?

Former Celtic and Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has suggested in The Times that Manchester United should make Marcus Rashford their main striker.

Cascarino has pointed out that no so long ago Tottenham Hotspur made Harry Kane their first-choice striker, and it has paid dividends.

Kane broke into the Spurs first team under Mauricio Pochettino during the 2014-15 season, and the England international has since progressed well and is now one of the best strikers in Europe.

The 23-year-old has scored 21 goals and created 36 chances in 26 Premier League matches for Spurs so far this campaign.

“Tottenham Hotspur were prepared to make Harry Kane their main striker while waiting for him to mature, and United must do the same with Marcus Rashford,” Cascarino wrote in The Times.

“Most managers are scared of trusting young players, feeling they cannot afford to give them time to improve, but Rashford must be an exception. He will be such a terrific player — and soon — that he should lead the line permanently now.

“United don’t need to buy Antoine Griezmann or put Zlatan Ibrahimovic back as the No 9 when he recovers from injury. Rashford has a great inner belief: he needed that to take the free kick from which he scored last night.”

Cascarino made the aforementioned comments about Rashford following the youngster’s performance against Celta de Vigo on Thursday evening.

The 19-year-old forward scored midway through the second half to guide the Red Devils to a 1-0 victory over Celta away from home at the Balaidos in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final tie.

The England international has scored five goals and created 19 chances in 29 Premier League appearances for United so far this season.
