Tony Cascarino suggests that Liverpool should sell Dejan Lovren in the summer transfer window.
Lovren has been on the books of Liverpool since the summer of 2014 when he joined from Southampton for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £20 million.
The 28-year-old central defender, who earns £100,000 per week as salary according to The Independent, arrived at Anfield with a strong reputation, but the Croatia international has made some costly errors and has not been exactly ‘great’ for the Reds.
Former Chelsea striker Cascarino, who now works as a pundit for talkSPORT, has suggested that it is time for Liverpool and Lovren to part company this summer, despite the former Lyon star’s current contract at Anfield running until June 2021, according to Transfermarkt.com.
Cascarino wrote in The Times about Lovren: “A good player but not good enough if Liverpool are to challenge City for the title.”
Time to part company?
Lovren’s performances have been better and have improved in the second half of the season due to the presence of Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the Liverpool defence.
However, the 28-year-old is still prone to mistakes, and if Liverpool want to challenge for the Premier League title next season, then they should have a centre-back as good as Van Dijk, if not better.
