Many Tottenham players have thrived under Ange Postecoglou following his summer arrival, including the attacking players.

Given the former Celtic man’s demands to play on the front foot and at 100 miles per hour, then as an attacker, you can’t enjoy anything better.

But, for Brennan Johnson, his performances have been mixed, including during Tottenham’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester City.

Tony Cascarino was critical of the 22-year-old and how it ‘doesn’t look like he is embracing’ his price-tag, as he told talkSPORT.

Tottenham paid Nottingham Forest £47.5 million for Brennan Johnson’s talents and he instantly became a regular starter under Ange Postecoglou.

Despite the massive price-tag on his head, Tony Cascarino feels that he is doing the ‘simple things’ rather than taking risks.

With only one Premier League goal and four assists to his name since joining, the versatile forward isn’t impressing and it continued during his side’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester City.

Brennan Johnson in the final third

“I want to point out two players, I will start with Brennan Johnson,” said Cascarino.

“He has obviously had a big move. He is 22 and still a young man. A Welsh international and, at times, you can see his electric pace.

“Against Gvardiol (in the FA Cup), he didn’t have any intent of taking him on, at all. It always felt like he would get it and just do the simple thing and not take on any opportunity. He has one goal this season in 25 appearances. I know he has been in and out of the side and he has been sub.

“It doesn’t look like he is embracing that Tottenham £40 million odd buy that they would expect way more from him, because they should. He has got a lot of pace and he should be more direct.”

Patience with Brennan Johnson

This exposure is needed for the player and it needs to be noted that he is only in his second full season in the Premier League.

Sometimes that decision-making or final ball is killing him. Most of the rest he is doing right.

This isn’t something to be concerned about in the long run because this is where Postecoglou and his coaching staff need to be trusted.

And when his game does improve in the final third, then he will be a player who hurts the opposition all over the pitch.
