Manchester United are reportedly keen on Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn.

Tony Cascarino has stated that he’s been told Manchester United are going to go ‘very British’ in the transfer market amid rumours that they want to sign Aston Villa’s John McGinn.

The Sun recently claimed that United want to sign Villa’s star midfielder, who was one of Dean Smith’s key performers last season, as they won promotion to the Premier League.

United, who finished outside of the top four last season, have already gone down the British route this summer, with winger Daniel James and Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka joining the club.

Speaking to Weekend Sports Breakfast on TalkSport (30/06/2019 at 8:15 am), former Villa man Cascarino stated that McGinn is not worth the money that is being touted for him, but he expects United to sign ‘more’ players who suit his profile.

“Let’s put it into perspective first,” Cascarino told TalkSport. “There’s no way Manchester United are going to pay £50 million for John McGinn.

“So, that story is totally inflated because John McGinn is a fine player, Celtic wouldn’t pay a few thousand pounds more to take him to Parkhead and he ended up going to Villa. He’s had a really good season and he’s a really good player.

“I totally agree, he’s not a Manchester United player – I was told very close to what is happening at Manchester United that they are going to go very British. They have already done two. They are going to do more. I think there will be big signings that will come in, but it has got to mix up.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the head coach

Given the signings Manchester United have made so far, especially the one of James from Swansea, then it shouldn’t be a surprise that the Old Trafford club are keen on Villa’s man in the middle.

Wales international James has no experience of Premier League football, just like McGinn, and even though they play in different positions, the latter did perform better than him in the Championship.

Either way, Villa manager Dean Smith won’t be keen on losing any of his key players this summer, as the boyhood Villa fan plans for life in the Premier League.
