Tony Cascarino has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane could end up being ‘the best player’ never to have won anything in his career.

The 25-year-old has been a goal machine for his boyhood club in recent seasons as they have punched above their weight under Mauricio Pochettino, who has spent little compared to his rivals, but with he has not been able to secure any silverware.

Nonetheless, the Telegraph have claimed that his teammates are fearing that he will consider his future at the end of next season if the London club cannot break their trophy duck.

Speaking to Weekend Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (02/03/2019 at 8:10 am), Cascarino made a huge claim about what could happen to Kane if he doesn’t end up winning a trophy as he compared him with Newcastle legend Alan Shearer.

“Harry Kane at the moment could be the best player that has never won anything,” Cascarino told talkSPORT. “And I mean as in Premier League.

“Alan Shearer didn’t win enough Premier Leagues. I always say about Alan’s career, yes it was fantastic, he played for his boyhood club, Newcastle. But had he gone to Manchester United, he’d have won maybe six Premier Leagues.

“Kane is in a similar vein – I do think it’s a big issue for Harry, his desire to win things. The only thing that is keeping him at Spurs is his love for the club.”

Spurs are out of the FA Cup, with Manchester City lifting the League Cup last month and with many supporters in agreement that the Premier League is now out of reach.

But they are still in the knockout stages of the Champions League and they hold a three-goal lead over Borussia Dortmund, with the second leg set to take place in Germany on Tuesday.

Nonetheless, in their recent match, Spurs recorded a home draw against bitter rivals Arsenal with Kane equalising for his team from the penalty spot.

As a result of that strike, he has taken his goal tally in the Premier League to 16 for the season from 25 games [transfermarkt]. He did miss a number of games in January and February because of an injury.
