Newcastle United suffered a defeat in the Premier League over the weekend.
Tony Cascarino has claimed that ‘people are trying to take advantage’ of buying Newcastle on the ‘absolute cheap’ following reports that Mike Ashley no longer wants to sell the club.
The Times recently claimed that Ashley has failed to see any realistic offer materialise after he put the club up for sale 17 months ago.
There is no doubt that Ashley is not a liked figure amongst the Toon Army faithful, who have been calling for his departure for some time.
Speaking to Weekend Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (03/03/2019 at 7:15 am), Cascarino shared his thoughts on the recent reports regarding Newcastle’s future.
“You do have to wonder from the outside if people are trying to take advantage of trying to get Newcastle on the absolute cheap,” Cascarino told talkSPORT. “And thinking the fans will put pressure on Ashley and he will budge.
“But he is a businessman and he probably won’t. As much as Newcastle fans will think he is wrong for their football club, which is probably a fair argument. Ashley is entitled to say ‘no’ to offers if he doesn’t think are even close to what he values the club at.”
Despite Rafa Benitez’s side suffering a defeat at West Ham over the weekend, his players have put together a number of positive results in recent weeks.
January signing, Miguel Almiron has played a big part in that because his arrival has lifted the St James’ Park supporters, helped his teammates and added some extra spice to their attacking third.
There is a six-point cushion between the Magpies and 18th-placed Cardiff, but that doesn’t mean Benitez won’t be looking over his shoulder because a number of bad results in these coming weeks could prove to be costly.
Before the international break at the end of the month, Newcastle will host Marco Silva’s Everton on home soil before travelling to Bournemouth.
