Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur and Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle United have been linked with Manchester United defender Luke Shaw in the January transfer window.
Tony Cascarino has suggested in The Times that Luke Shaw should leave Manchester United.
The former Chelsea striker, who now works as a pundit for talkSPORT, believes that Shaw needs to leave United and re-establish himself as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.
“He needs to leave Manchester United and restore his reputation as a top-flight left back,” Cascarino wrote about Shaw in The Times. “A footballer’s career is not long and he can’t waste his talent sitting on the bench — even if he will earn more money doing so.”
“Shaw will regret staying at United,” added Cascarino.
Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United speculation
Shaw has struggled for playing time at United since his move from Southampton in the summer of 2014 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £27 million.
There have been injury concerns, but even when he has been fit, the 22-year-old left-back has failed to play regularly.
The England international has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United in the January transfer window.
According to The Express, Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez wants to sign the 22-year-old left-back, while The Mirror has claimed that United manager Jose Mourinho will offer him in a deal to bring Danny Rose to Old Trafford.
Newcastle could do with a left-back, and Shaw would be a very good signing for the Magpies.
The England international worked with manager Pochettino at Southampton, and the Argentine boss would be able to get the best out of him at Spurs.
