Vertonghen is one of the best central defenders in the Premier League, and the Belgian’s performance against Madrid suggests that he will remain on top of his game for a few more years.

The former Ajax star has established himself as a key figure at Tottenham over the years and is a leader at the back.

The win against Madrid on Wednesday evening means that Spurs have booked their place in the last-16 stage of the Champions League this season.

Tottenham are also aiming to win the Premier League title this season.
