Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge scored for England against Scotland in the World Cup qualifier on Friday evening.

Former Celtic and Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has written in The Times that Liverpool star Daniel Sturridge can be frustrating to watch.

The former Republic of Ireland international made the comment following England’s 3-0 win against Scotland at the Wembley Stadium in London on Friday evening.

Liverpool striker Sturridge put the Three Lions in the lead in the 24th minute, and his club teammate Adam Lallana added a second on 50 minutes.

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill wrapped up the points for Gareth Southgate’s side just past the hour mark in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification UEFA Group F game.

“Daniel Sturridge is one of very few players who can be on the fringe of the play, and even sometimes look disinterested, and yet be relied upon to produce a moment of inspiration,” Cascarino wrote in The Times.

“The England striker can be so frustrating to watch, and I would argue he has been a perplexing figure for the past three years, and yet he can regularly be the player that matters.

“His header for the opening goal was not an easy chance to take. Many forwards would have flicked Kyle Walker’s cross wide but Sturridge made the finish look simple.”

Sturridge is a very good striker, but the main problem with him has been his fitness.

The former Chelsea and Manchester City striker has struggled with injuries and fitness issues for a while, and that has stopped him from progressing.
