Popular football pundit Tony Cascarino has made some interesting observations / comments while writing for The Times on Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli.
The Spurs midfielder’s blatant dive against Huddersfield Town was criticized by even his own manager, Mauricio Pochettino.
Cascarino says that Alli will not stop any of his mischievous behavior, but he will get better at disguising it.
Alli has had a rapid rise to the top of the game, and it is obvious that he comes under such a spotlight where his every action is thoroughly scrutinized.
Cascarino has made a valid point that Alli must ensure that positive aspects of his game outweigh the negative side. If he scores and dominates the game, people will soon forget about less important things and will rave about his talent.
The former Chelsea player notes that Alli has the swagger of a star but he just can’t think that he is a star at the moment on the basis of two good seasons.
Cascarino has advised Alli to take note of world class players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale – how they have worked hard to improve their game.
“He’s got the swagger of a star but he has to make sure he backs it up with his performances,” Cascarino wrote for The Times.
“Players such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale might know how to win free kicks and penalties well, but what they have done best is work hard to improve. They are the perfect example for Alli.
“Look at Ronaldo, who was a kid when he moved to Manchester United and at first his game was all about stepovers, diving and the odd long-range shot, but through hard work he became deadly in front of goal, strong in the air and also a serious physical unit.
“There will always be an edge to Alli to go with his talent. It’s up to him now as to which side of his game he becomes most famous for.”
