Everton are currently sitting in the relegation zone with the pressure mounting on their manager Marco Silva.
Tony Cascarino has questioned the consistency levels of playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson in the Premier League as Everton have started the new campaign in a worrying fashion.
Marco Silva’s side are currently sitting in the relegation zone following their 1-0 defeat to Burnley last time out, as Everton’s performances haven’t been up to scratch this season.
During difficult periods last season, Sigurdsson did stand out, but this term, he hasn’t looked at his best, as he, along with the Toffees, have struggled to prove their worth.
Speaking to Weekend Sports Breakfast on TalkSport (13/10/2019 at 9:00 am), former Republic of Ireland striker Cascarino was critical of Sigurdsson’s consistency levels.
“Sigurdsson was let go by Tottenham, they chose for him to go to Swansea, and he’s a talented lad, he’s superbly technically,” Cascarino told TalkSport.
“But as a regular consistent Premier League performer, I wouldn’t say he ticks that box for me.”
Sigurdsson moved to Goodison Park two years ago when he made a £45 million switch from Swansea City [BBC Sport].
The Toffees have lacked bite in the final third this season, with Silva struggling to find goals from his players, along with the fact that they have also struggled from a defensive standpoint too.
From his eight Premier League matches this season, Sigurdsson is yet to get off the mark with a goal, and he has provided only one assist this term [transfermarkt].
