West Bromwich Albion lost against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Monday.

Jay Rodriguez of West Bromwich Albion misses a chance during the Premier League match between Arsenal and West Bromwich Albion at Emirates Stadium on September 25, 2017 in London, England.

Former Chelsea and Celtic striker Tony Cascarino has spoken highly of West Bromwich Albion forward Jay Rodriguez in The Times.

Cascarino was impressed with the performance of Rodriguez for West Brom against Arsenal on Monday evening.

The English forward started the Premier League game at the Emirates Stadium and played for the entire 90 minutes.

The Baggies lost 2-0, thanks to goals from 26-year-old Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette.

“Last night Jay Rodriguez looked to be in the best shape I have seen him in for a long time,” Cascarino wrote in The Times.

“The former England striker has missed a lot of football through injury in recent years but Tony Pulis, who took him from Southampton on a four-year contract for £12 million in the summer, has obviously decided that he can reproduce his best form at West Bromwich Albion.

“He is not as clinical a finisher as the manager would like — if he were, he might have had a hat-trick in the first half.

“Even so, the 28-year-old’s running will always trouble defenders, and he outsprinted his marker several times at the Emirates last night.”

Rodriguez joined West Brom from Premier League rivals Southampton in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by The Daily Mail to be worth £12 million.

The forward is a very good and talented footballer, but the former Burnley has had injury issues.

The 28-year-old has scored one goal in six appearances in the Premier League for the Baggies so far this season

West Brom are 12th in the Premier League table at the moment with eight points from six matches.

Tony Pulis’s side will take on Watford at The Hawthorns in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
