The future of West Ham United legend James Collins has been making the headlines of late.

West Ham battled against relegation all season long but some good late form saw David Moyes’ side finish in 13th on 42 points.

The 3-1 win over Everton in the season finale at the London Stadium on Sunday was arguably one of West Ham‘s more memorable performances of the season.

Not just for the excellent display on the pitch but also the late cameo from Hammers hero James Collins, who was in floods of tears after a game which looks like it could be his last for the club.

With his contract up in the summer and no indication over whether his 10-year stay over two spells will be extended, Collins received a rousing reception from West Ham fans.

Supporters have been calling for the Ginger Pele to be handed a new deal as back-up to keep his positive influence around the club.

And even Hammers skipper Mark Noble sent a strongly worded message to co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold over what they should do regarding Collins’ future on Twitter.

But now former pro turned pundit Tony Cascarino has made an astonishing claim on talkSPORT about Collins’ future which will disgust Hammers fans… and make the club’s owners even more unpopular.

Cascarino told the Weekend Sports Breakfast that not only will Collins be released, but the club legend was told via email which co-host Georgie Bingham then took to Twitter to repeat describing the actions as ‘yuck’.

“Cas has it on good authority that not only has James Collins been released by West Ham after 11 years without ceremony or tribute but it’s been done by email. Yuck. #WHUFC,”

At 34 Collins is approaching the end of his career but supporters feel his knowledge of the club is crucial to helping others and new signings understand what it means to play for West Ham.

Fans have also been calling for Collins to be given a testimonial by the board after 10 years of service.

So this news, which is yet to be confirmed by the club, and the lack of class with which it was allegedly delivered will not surprise Hammers fans but will be sure to anger them.
