Tottenham Hotspur managed a 0-0 draw against Swansea City.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Wembley jinx continues as they were left frustrated after managing a 0-0 draw against Swansea City on Saturday in the Premier League.
Football pundit Tony Cascarino says that Mauricio Pochettino, the Spurs manager, made some bad decisions during the match.
He says the substitutions made by the Argentine “didn’t make sense.”
In the 74th minute of the match, Spurs manager introduced Fernando Llorente, but the Spanish striker failed to make an impact.
The 32-year-old, who joined Spurs in the summer from Swansea, managed only five touches, and had a meagre 20% passing accuracy.
Cascarino says that the players didn’t seem keen to give Llorente the ball. He argues that Spurs should have used him properly.
Llorente is a tall and physically-built striker, and Spurs should have changed their style of play to get the best out of him.
Cascarino adds that Spurs should have hit diagonal balls to him for knockdowns and flick-ons.
“Pochettino’s substitutions didn’t seem to make sense,” said Cascarino to The Times.
“He brought on Fernando Llorente, a talented targetman, in the 74th minute but the striker barely had a touch and his team-mates didn’t seem keen to give him the ball. If you have him, use him, by hitting diagonal balls to him for knockdowns and flick-ons.”
Tottenham are just outside the top four with eight points, five behind joint-leaders Manchester United and Manchester City, but there’s plenty of games left to catch up.
