Tony Cascarino has transfer advice for Jay Rodriguez

West Bromwich Albion, Hull City and Swansea City are reportedly interested in Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez in the January transfer window.

Former Celtic and Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has suggested in The Times that Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez should not leave the club.

Rodriguez has been on the books of Southampton since 2012 and has a contract with the Saints until June 2019, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

The Mirror recently reported of interest from West Bromwich Albion, Swansea City and Hull City in the 27-year-old forward.

Cascarino believes that Rodriguez should not leave Southampton in the January transfer window and should remain at St. Mary’s Stadium.

“Before his knee injury he was in fine form and was linked with Tottenham and Manchester City,” Cascarino wrote in The Times regarding the future of Rodriguez.

“But he has to re-establish himself and should stay at Southampton. He owes it to them so unless Claude Puel doesn’t want him, he’s at the perfect club.”

Rodriguez is a very good forward and has proved himself in the Premier League. There is no reason for the England international to leave Southampton in the January transfer window.

The former Burnley forward has scored three goals and created three chances in 12 Premier League matches for Southampton so far this season. During the 2015-16 campaign, Rodriguez created three chances in 12 league matches.

Southampton are 10th in the Premier League table at the moment with 24 points from 20 matches. The Saints will return to action on Wednesday evening when they take on Premier League rivals Liverpool at St. Mary’s Stadium in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup.
