West Ham United have been linked with a move for Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge in the January transfer window.
Former Celtic and Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has given his opinion on the future of Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge in The Times.
Sturridge has been on the books of Liverpool since January 2013 and has a contract with the Merseyside outfit until June 2019, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.
The England international is a very good striker, but the 27-year-old is not guaranteed a place in the Reds’ starting lineup.
The former Manchester City and Chelsea man has scored two goals and created six chances in 12 Premier League appearances for Liverpool so far this season.
The Sun reported last month of West Ham United’s interest in Sturridge, as they are in need of an out-and-out striker.
Former Chelsea striker Cascarino has given his opinion on the future of Sturridge.
“If he leaves it has to be to a top six club or one of the big sides in Europe – that is Sturridge’s level,” Cascarino wrote in The Times regarding Sturridge’s future. “Otherwise there is no point in him dropping down to a smaller team, he should fight for his place at Liverpool.”
Sturridge is a genuine goal threat, but his main problem is fitness. If the Liverpool man is able to maintain his fitness, then he could become one of the top three strikers in the Premier League.
During the 2015-16 season, the striker scored eight goals and created seven chances in 14 Premier League matches.
