Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Andros Townsend from Crystal Palace in the January transfer window.

Former Celtic and Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has written in The Times that Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend needs to settle down.

Cascarino, who now works as a pundit for talkSPORT, believes that the former Tottenham Hotspur man needs to find a club where he can establish himself.

The 25-year-old is on the books of Premier League club Palace at the moment, but he has been linked with a move back to Newcastle United in the January transfer window.

The Guardian recently reported of Newcastle’s interest in Townsend, with the winger himself claimed to be keen on returning to St. James’ Park.

The 25-year-old joined the Eagles from the Magpies in the summer of 2016 following Rafael Benitez’s side’s relegation to the Championship at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

Townsend had joined Newcastle from North London outfit Tottenham only in January 2016.

“Andros Townsend’s career is the strangest I have ever seen,” Cascarino wrote in The Times. “Tottenham Hotspur loaned him out to nine clubs before they sold him, and he still behaves like he is always on the move.

“He joined Newcastle United and upon their relegation signed for Crystal Palace, but now is being linked with a return to the northeast.

“Even his England career feels like a loan spell — a burst of good games and then he has faded away. He is 25 now and needs to find somewhere he can establish himself.”

Townsend has played for 12 different clubs in seven years, and that is a reason why his progress has been stunted.

The England international winger has quality and talent, but for him to enhance his career, he needs to play for a team for two or three years running.
