Tottenham Hotspur could reportedly secure the services of Real Madrid’s talented attacker Marco Asensio this summer.

Tony Cascarino has admitted that he finds Marco Asensio’s situation at Real Madrid ‘really strange’ as he expects the reported Tottenham Hotspur target to ‘leave the club’.

The Sun have claimed that Spurs have asked for the 23-year-old in exchange for Christian Eriksen, who is attracting the interest of the Spanish club.

Mauricio Pochettino guided the North London club to the Champions League final and a top-four finish last season as he is hoping to make moves during this summer transfer window in order to progress his squad further.

Speaking to Weekend Sports Breakfast on TalkSport (22/06/2019 at 8:10 am), former Republic of Ireland international Cascarino reacted to those Asensio and Tottenham rumours.

On Asensio suiting Tottenham: “The Ansensio is a really strange one,” Cascarino told TalkSport. “When all the carnage of last season, with Zidane leaving and Ronaldo leaving, Asensio was going to be pushed up the pecking order. He was going to be a certain starter.

“He has hardly played a part this year. He’s what 22-year-old. He has been given that golden chance yet it hasn’t happened. And he’ll be one of the scapegoats of the season. He will leave the club.”

There’s no doubting that Tottenham would need a player of Asensio’s quality because they haven’t got a player like him in their squad and he would more than likely be able to get into Spurs’ starting XI.

During his career, the versatile attacker has won two Champions League titles, but just like Madrid, he struggled to prove his worth last term as he only scored one goal in the league [transfermarkt].

Although it is looking unlikely, if Tottenham do pull off a deal for Asensio then it would be some impressive bit of transfer business from the London club.
