Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths did not play well for Scotland against England in the World Cup qualifier on Friday.
Former Aston Villa and Chelsea player Tony Cascarino has described Celtic star Leigh Griffiths as a “journeyman striker” in The Times.
The former Celtic striker made the comment following Scotland’s 3-0 defeat to England away from home at the Wembley Stadium in London on Friday evening.
Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge put the Three Lions in the lead in the 24th minute, and his club teammate Adam Lallana added a second on 50 minutes.
Chelsea defender Gary Cahill wrapped up the points for Gareth Southgate’s side just past the hour mark.
Celtic striker Griffiths featured in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification UEFA Group F game, but the 26-year-old Scotland international striker did not have a great game.
“England can boast goalscorers of a much higher calibre so they were clinical when it mattered,” Cascarino wrote in The Times.
“Otherwise Scotland held their own for a while but without a centre forward of class they could not make the breakthroughs needed. Leigh Griffiths is a journeyman striker and the gulf in quality showed.”
Griffiths may not be a great striker, but he is certainly a good one who is playing for one of the world’s biggest clubs.
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker was in brilliant form last season, and the 26-year-old remains an important player for Celtic.
The Hoops are at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 31 points from 11 matches, 10 points clear of second-placed Aberdeen with a game in hand.
