Tony Cascarino says Liverpool’s Andy Robertson reminds him of Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier.
Former Chelsea player and now popular football pundit, Tony Cascarino has showered praise on Liverpool’s left-back Andrew Robertson.
The Scottish defender joined Liverpool this summer for a fee of £10m from Hull City, as reported by BBC.
Robertson has made a solid impact for the Reds already and was brilliant against Crystal Palace on Saturday. He made intelligent runs in the box, was solid in defence, produced some good crosses from the flanks, and made a couple of good attempts on goal.
Cascarino believes that Robertson gives Liverpool a new attacking dimension at left-back, and the 23-year-old defender could prove to be one of the “bargains of the summer”.
He went on to say that the Liverpool defender reminds him of Tottenham’s right-back Kieran Trippier, who is an attacking full-back and good at crossing.
James Milner has player at left-back last season and did reasonably well. Cascarino says that while Milner looks to cut back on to his favoured right foot, Robertson’s natural instinct is to whip the ball in the box.
Cascarino adds that Robertson is a “more rounded player” than Alberto Moreno, and and he won’t be surprised if the Spaniard leaves the club.
“Andy Robertson gives Liverpool a new dynamic at left back and could prove to be one of the bargains of the summer,” wrote Cascarino for The Times. “The Scotland international reminds me of Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier — an attacking full back who is one-footed and brilliant at crossing.
“Last season, James Milner did a great job there but would slow moves down by looking to cut back on to his favoured right foot, whereas Robertson’s first thought is to whip crosses into the box. He is a more rounded player than Alberto Moreno, who looks third-choice now and I would not be surprised if the Spaniard left the club.”
