Popular football pundit Tony Cascarino has advised Tottenham’s new signing Serge Aurier to get rid of his reckless attitude.
The former Chelsea player says that while Aurier has a lot of ability, both in attack and defence, he must cut out the bad habit of making reckless challenges.
It was Aurier’s lunge on Toni Kroos that earned Real Madrid a penalty, and Cascarino says that was unnecessary. He adds that his immediate reaction was “You idiot”.
He also notes that Aurier has made dangerous and careless challenges already this season, and he cannot do that in the modern game, as attackers are looking at every opportunity to go down.
“Serge Aurier must get rid of his reckless attitude if he is to be successful at the highest level,” wrote Cascarino for The Times. “His lunge on Toni Kroos was so unnecessary. Watching it, my immediate reaction was: “You idiot!”
“He has a lot of ability, in attack and defence, and he is a fine athlete with great pace. But he must cut out that recklessness.”
Spurs earned a 1-1 draw against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night in the Champions League.
The north London club took the lead when Raphael Varane scored an own goal. Madrid equalised through Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored from the penalty spot.
The result puts Spurs in a very good position to qualify for the knock out stages after Borussia Dortmund managed a 1-1 draw against Apoel.
