Everton are reportedly close to signing Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph.

TalkSport pundit Tony Cascarino has compared Everton’s reported move for Fabian Delph to when Liverpool signed Gary McAllister 19 years ago.
The Telegraph have claimed that Everton are closing in on signing Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph this summer, who has played a back-up role at the Etihad during their few years of dominance under Pep Guardiola.
When McAllister joined Liverpool in 2000, he was 33-years-old, with England international Delph four years younger than the Scotsman was, at the time.
Speaking to Weekend Sports Breakfast on TalkSport (13/07/2019 at 9:45 am), former Republic of Ireland international Cascarino backed Everton’s move for Delph.
“I tell you what we forget sometimes in football,” Cascarino told TalkSport. “You know like James Milner leaves for Liverpool or Gareth Barry [to Manchester City]. Gary McAllister left Coventry to join Liverpool in his mid-30’s.
“These sorts of signings where players who come from very big clubs and are not quite part of the plans, but actually can still do a job for somebody else and Delph would perhaps tick that box.
“They have got some good players in there. Gomes and Idrissa Gueye. They have got some good players.”

Midfielder Delph will turn 30 in November, so it is obvious that Marco Silva has seemingly targeted him for his experience and his leadership qualities.
If Delph does make the switch to Goodison Park then he won’t be guaranteed a place in Everton’s starting XI, with Idrissa Gueye, Andre Gomes, Tom Davies and Gylifi Sigurdson all vying for those places in the middle of the park.
But what the former Aston Villa player will bring is that extra bite to Marco Silva’s midfield and much-needed quality and depth to his squad.
