Liverpool recorded a 2-0 win over Wolves on the last day of the Premier League season.
Tony Cascarino is adamant that Wolves forward Raul Jimenez is ‘good enough’ to play for Liverpool and claimed that he is ‘very similar’ to Roberto Firmino.
Mexico international Jimenez initially joined Wolves in the summer on-loan from Benfica before making his move permanent in April for a club record fee of £30million [BBC Sport].
On Sunday, Jimenez played at Anfield as his team suffered a 2-0 loss to Jurgen Klopp’s side on the last day of the Premier League campaign.
Speaking to Weekend Sports Breakfast on TalkSport (11/05/2019 at 9:45 am), former Republic of Ireland international Cascarino believes Jimenez can make that step up to Liverpool, but he expects him to stay at his current club.
“He’s a Liverpool fan, he’s very similar in ways to Firmino at Liverpool, he’s got that ability to get goals in certain types of situations,” Cascarino told TalkSport. “He could easily play at Anfield.
“I just think Wolves have invested a lot of money on him. He’s done brilliantly well and I think he’ll continue with Wolves next season. I don’t think he’ll be a Liverpool player. But he’s good enough to be.”
After earning promotion from the Championship last season, Nuno Espirito Santo has continued his strong work at Wolves, with Jimenez playing a big part in their success during this campaign.
The Midlands outfit secured a top-seven finish and could well find themselves playing Europa League football next season if they can qualify for the group stages.
Over the course of the season, Jimenez has played 44 games in all competitions for Nuno’s side, scoring 17 goals and supplying his teammates with eight assists [transfermarkt].
