Tony Cascrino has claimed that Tottenham would have preferred to play at their new stadium rather than Wembley for their Champions League quarter-final clash against Manchester City.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side will play the first leg at their temporary home and Cascarino claimed that Spurs fans will ‘realise’ it is probably the ‘worst draw’ they could have had.

Manchester United fans may argue that they may have had a worse tie because they will come up against Lionel Messi’s Barcelona.

Speaking to the Weekend Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (16/03/2019 at 7:15 am), Cascarino shared his thoughts on Spurs’ Champions League draw and what their preference would have been.

“Tottenham fans will realise it is probably the worst draw you could get,” Cascarino told talkSPORT. “I don’t think I am saying anything out of turn there.

“You have to respect that Man City are devastating and if you take them on at Wembley. I think it would have been nicer for Spurs to be at the new stadium and maybe a slightly smaller pitch because Wembley is big. City will come there and play there game. They come there and play you like a home game, so it’s a really tough ask for Spurs.”

London, England - October 29, 2018

Earlier on in the season, Pep Guardiola’s side recorded a 1-0 win over the London club at Wembley as they will be looking for a similar impact in Europe.

Regardless of what happens during both legs, England will have a representative in Europe’s biggest club competition, with United playing Barca and Liverpool taking on Porto.

Real Madrid, who have already been knocked out of the competition by Ajax, lifted the trophy last season when they beat Jurgen Klopp’s side.

It is likely that another English team will reach the final and Pochettino will be hoping his team can do the unthinkable and make the last two of this competition.
