Marko Arnautovic has finally departed West Ham United after months and months of problems at the London Club.
Tony Cascarino has claimed that Marko Arnautovic should have been playing for a team ‘challenging for titles’ following his exit from West Ham United.
The 30-year-old has left the London Stadium in pretty acrimonious circumstances when the Hammers announced on Monday that he has moved to the Chinese Super League [West Ham’s official website].
In January, Arnautovic expressed his desire to depart West Ham for the financial hotbed that is China, but the club refused to sell as they were left with no choice but to part ways with him this summer.
Speaking to Weekend Sports Breakfast on TalkSport (06/07/2019 at 9:10 am), ex-Millwall striker Cascarino was critical of Arnautovic, as he stated what the difference was between him & the much-loved Hammers hero Paolo Di Canio.
“Marko Arnautovic is an enigma in many ways,” Cascarino told TalkSport. “You have to be very careful at being patronising, at being at West Ham and at a bigger club.
“He should have been challenging for titles. Being a Champions League player – one difference between him and Di Canio, who was adored by the West Ham fans because he was apart of their club, he felt like a fan to them.
“Arnautovic has distanced himself. Once he gets above his station. [It’s like] ‘I am doing you a favour’. And that’s why West Ham fans turned on him. He didn’t appreciate the club he was at.”
During his career, Arnautovic has played for a team in the Champions League – Inter – but he struggled to earn regular game time under then-manager Jose Mourinho.
Unsurprisingly, his attitude was the problem and later down the line that led him to the Premier League and a move to Stoke City.
He would later join West Ham where David Moyes got the best out of the Austrian. But he has now parted ways with the London club in a very bitter manner.
