The Irishman has likened the Tottenham Hotspur striker to Brighton & Hove Albion’s Glenn Murray.
Former Republic of Ireland striker Tony Cascarino has changed his mind about Tottenham Hotspur’s Vincent Janssen, it seems.
Ahead of Spurs’ 2-0 win against Manchester City last month, the 54-year-old – who played for Aston Villa, Celtic and Chelsea – tipped Janssen as a potential difference-maker in his column for the Times.
“Tottenham can also emulate Celtic by playing diagonal balls forward across the City penalty area, a ploy that brought the Scottish team’s opening goal,” Cascarino wrote.

“City are vulnerable to this and Janssen can take advantage. He is good at peeling off centre backs and teeing up team-mates to score.”
However, with no goals from open play yet for the £18 million summer signing, Cascarino now feels that Janssen should be playing second tier football – and likened the Dutchman to Brighton & Hove Albion striker Glenn Murray.
“Janssen is better suited to the Championship,” Cascarino told the Times [via the London Evening Standard]. “He leads the line well, but is not quick enough.
“Janssen has a similar style to Glenn Murray, who scored a hat-trick for Brighton on Saturday.

“[Against Tottenham on Saturday] Leicester had Jamie Vardy and Shinji Okazaki, who stretch defences and create room for others, but Janssen can’t do that.”
Janssen scored the third penalty of his Tottenham career against Leicester, but his impotence from open play remains a cause for concern.
Pleasingly for Spurs fans, though, Janssen also endured a difficult start at previous club AZ Alkmaar, but ended his only campaign at the AFAS Stadion as the Eredivisie’s top scorer with 27 goals.
The 22-year-old’s international record – four goals and only one penalty in his eight caps for Holland – should also offer encouragement to the White Hart Lane faithful.
