Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk will come up against Cristiano Ronaldo in the UEFA Nations League final on Sunday evening.

Tony Cascarino has backed Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk to ‘tame’ Cristiano Ronaldo when Holland meet Portugal in the UEFA Nations League final on Sunday evening.
Centre-back Van Dijk helped the Dutch knockout England in the semi-finals on Thursday, whilst Ronaldo netted a hat-trick for his country in their win against Switzerland.
Now, Van Dijk, who recently won the Champions League final with Liverpool, will be hoping to top off his week by adding another trophy to his cabinet.
Speaking to the Weekend Sports Breakfast on TalkSport (09/06/2019 at 8:55 am), former Republic of Ireland international Cascarino backed Liverpool’s Van Dijk to have more success.
“I’m going to for Holland [to beat Portugal],” Cascarino told TalkSport. “I think Virgil van Dijk will tame Ronaldo tonight. As great as Ronaldo’s been and with the hat-trick he got [in the semi-final]. I think the Dutch can win this game.”

Van Dijk has been one of the standout performers in Europe this season and he will only increase his reputation if he produces the goods in the UEFA Nations League Final.
Not only that, he will be coming up against an in-form Ronaldo and if he can nullify his threat then that itself would showcase that he is arguably the best defender in the world, at this moment in time.
If Van Dijk can add another trophy to his name then he will focus his attention on winning the Premier League trophy with Liverpool next term.
