Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold scored a wonderful free-kick against German side Hoffenheim to give the Reds a massive advantage in their Champions League qualifier.
The Reds have taken a 2-1 lead in the first leg of the qualifier, and will head to Anfield for the return leg with high confidence.
The 18-year-old right-back, who started against Watford in Liverpool’s opening game, started yet again in absence of the injured Nathaniel Clyne.
He is very highly rated, and the fact that he was allowed to take free-kick in such a big game, shows the trust Jurgen Klopp and his teammates have laid on him.
Former Chelsea player and now turned football pundit Tony Cascarino said that it was a “terrific strike” from the youngster.
He says that Alexander-Arnold will improve with time, and praised him for his electric pace.
While there are question marks over his defensive ability, Cascarino says that it is “hard to judge him” in the Liverpool side because the full-backs are often exposed.
“It was a terrific strike by Trent Alexander-Arnold but taking it on shows you the confidence he has and also the respect that his team-mates have for him. He’s pretty handy at taking corners too,” notes Cascarino for The Times.
“Overall he’s very athletic though he needs to fill out a little, but that will come. In terms of defending it’s pretty hard to judge him in this Liverpool team because the full backs are often so exposed. But he has electric pace and that will always catch the eye.”
Former Liverpool player Don Hutchison has also showered praise on the youngster, saying that not many Liverpool players in recent years have scored in European games away from home.
