Everton were linked with a move for Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha in the summer, but they ended up securing the services of Alex Iwobi instead.

Tony Cascarino has stated that he is baffled that Everton ‘made a bid’ for Wilfried Zaha in the summer, but ended up signing Alex Iwobi instead.
TalkSport pundit Cascarino claimed that given what he has seen from Iwobi so far, he isn’t the player who is going to push Everton into top-six contention.
The Independent reported in August that Crystal Palace winger Zaha was expecting to make a £65 million switch to Goodison Park, but a move didn’t materialise in the end.
Speaking to Weekend Sports Breakfast on TalkSport (13/10/2019 at 9:05 am), Cascarino shared his thoughts on Everton signing Iwobi in the summer instead of Zaha.
“I never quite got the Wilf Zaha one,” Cascarino told TalkSport. “They made a bid for Zaha and they ended up with Iwobi.
“Okay, they have different qualities. But Everton looked like they were trying to get to a level of competing against the top-six and then they couldn’t get him. And it felt like a deal that really never got going. It was really weird.
“If you offer £50m plus, you know you are going to have to offer more to go after Wilf – If you are looking at a top-six team, I don’t think Iwobi ticks that box, at this moment. He is still a young man, so he could become a better player.”

Everton’s summer dealings are perhaps coming under the microscope that little more because of the poor start they have made to the new season.
Marco Silva’s side, who were beaten by Burnley last time out, are currently sitting in the relegation zone, with the pressure mounting on their Portuguese coach.
After the international break, Silva will be hoping that the likes of Iwobi can step up and produce the goods because the Merseyside club needs the points.
