West Bromwich Albion returned to the top of the Championship table thanks to their victory at a Potters side ‘really in the doldrums’.

West Bromwich Albion legend and BBC pundit Tony Brown has given his verdict on the Baggies’ victory on Monday night which saw The Hawthorns side return to the top of the Championship table (BBC Sport).
The Baggies had to sit and wait on matchday 15 as they were knocked off top spot following the other teams fulfilling their fixtures but they got the job done by running out 2-0 winners at Stoke City.
It took West Brom just eight minutes to break the deadlock at the Bet365 Stadium, a one-two between Grady Diangana and Jake Livermore allowing Matt Phillips to weigh in with an unmarked, close-range finish.
Diangana was also involved in creating the opportunity for goal number two, being brought down by Cameron Carter-Vickers in the Potters box for a penalty which Hal Robson-Kanu converted, sending Jack Butland the wrong way.

“Albion have become rampant,” Brown told BBC Radio WM – as reported by BBC Sport – following the Baggies’ second goal. “They’re going for Stoke, trying to get that third.”
At full time, he said: “They had Stoke chasing all over the pitch trying to get a touch. They got the two goals, but the most important thing is they kept a clean sheet. Everybody has been crying out for a clean sheet. They were better than a Stoke side who are really in the doldrums.”
West Brom are now two points clear of second-placed Preston, one of three teams on 28 points, and up next for Slaven Bilic and co is Saturday’s trip to Hull.
