Champion boxer Tony Bellew has told Everton fans on Twitter that Wayne Rooney must start every single match for the Toffees after he scored a wonderful hat-trick against West Ham United.

The 32-year-old was dropped by interim manager David Unsworth on Sunday as the Toffees suffered an embarrassing 4-1 loss to Southampton, with the former England skipper remaining as an unused substitute on the south coast.

Wayne Rooney of Everton scores his sides third goal during the Premier League match between Everton and West Ham United at Goodison Park on November 29, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

However, Unsworth brought the versatile ace back into the Blues’ starting line-up and it paid dividends. Rooney was superb with the captain’s armband, scoring three time as the Toffees won 4-0 in front of Sam Allardyce.

Bellew, who is a well-known Everton fan, claimed on Twitter that Rooney must be starting every single match for the Merseyside club, describing him as a “footballing genius”.

Rooney opened the scoring after heading in a penalty which was saved by Joe Hart, before tapping in a Tom Davies cross at the back post. His third, though, was a stroke of genius, as he drove the ball into an empty net from inside his own half.

It has now seen Rooney find the back of the net eight times in 20 league and cup outings since he returned to Merseyside this summer from Manchester United, and will be looking to continue his form next time out.

Allardyce’s, who is yet to be confirmed as the Toffees’ new gaffer, is expected to take control of the Everton side prior to their game against Huddersfield on Saturday at Goodison Park.
