Tony Adams has lauded Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard by claiming that his left foot is better than club legend Dennis Bergkamp’s.

Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, the two skippers sat down to reflect on the season ahead of the Gunners massive Premier League clash against Manchester City this evening, with Adams comparing the current midfield to what he played with in 1998.

The former England centre-back captained Arsenal to the 1997/98 Premier League title with the likes of Patrick Vieira and Bergkamp playing ahead of Adams, with the defender comparing Odegaard’s style of play to the Dutch legend.

Arsenal’s midfield three of Odegaard, Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey have been instrumental in the Gunners’ Premier League title charge, and for Adams, the Norwegian international’s left-foot is better than anything Bergkamp could must with the same foot.

Adams said on Odegaard: “I can really identify that [Arsenal’s midfield trio] with the 98 team. I had Emmanuel Petit in front of me, Patrick Vieira and Denis Berkgamp, I’m not saying you’re Dennis, you’ve got a better-left foot than Dennis anyway, so there you go, you’re better than Dennis.”

Lauding Odegaard higher than Bergkamp is some praise from Adams

Odegaard is arguably the best technical player Arsenal have had since Mesut Ozil, and whilst Bergkamp still tops the list of this category, Adams lauding the 24-year-old in some aspects higher than the Dutchman is quite some praise from the former captain.

The midfielder has been a revelation for Arsenal this season having add goals to his game, and although recent performances have been frustrating at times, there’s no denying that Odegaard’s left-foot has the potential to change an entire game for the Gunners in a second.
