Tony Adams believes England can use Tottenham star Harry Kane more effectively.

Tony Adams has insisted that Tottenham centre-forward Harry Kane needs to be playing further up the pitch when in an England shirt to improve.
The 25-year-old national team captain has linked up with Gareth Southgate’s squad, as they prepare for their first set of fixtures since reaching the World Cup semi-finals in the summer.
Spurs’ striker won the World Cup golden boot for his six goals in the tournament, but he often dropped into a deeper number 10 role and didn’t score in the latter rounds.
Ex-England and Arsenal defender Adams believes that Kane is far more effective when he’s in the penalty area, latching onto crosses and knockdowns.
“I think, certainly for England, he was coming deeper and deeper and playing more or less as a No 10. In the [World Cup] semi-final he missed a chance early on and I thought he got tired,” Adams told Sky Sports’ The Debate programme.
“I think we can do more for him, I think he needs more crosses, he’s that type of player, he needs to be in the box more often and he needs people to create stuff for him.”

Kane has begun the new Premier League season with Spurs by scoring two goals in his opening four games, but he’s certainly not at the peak of his powers right now.
The striker has an impressive 19 goals in his 30 senior England caps and will be looking to add to that tally in upcoming fixtures against Spain and Switzerland.
He is viewed as the talisman for the England side and perhaps even more pressure is on him now that Leicester City’s striker Jamie Vardy has effectively retired from international football.
