Tony Cottee has lauded Jarrod Bowen on Twitter with a one-word verdict for the winger’s season so far after scoring West Ham’s only goal in their Carabao Cup loss to Tottenham.
The Irons exited the competition after a 2-1 defeat in north London on Wednesday night. Bowen had restored parity at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Steven Bergwijn put Spurs ahead. But Lucas Moura restored the hosts’ advantage after just two-minutes.
Bowen produced a superb spin to strike at Tottenham after West Ham capitalised on poor play from Eric Dier. The defender botched his attempted clearance, with the ball falling to Declan Rice. He fed Nikola Vlasic, but the Croatian dragged his strike in Bowen’s direction.

Bowen trapped the ball brilliant to dummy Dier and open a yard of space before finding the bottom corner. His strike was the 25-year-old’s fifth goal of the season in all competitions.
Cottee hails West Ham winger Bowen after Tottenham goal
David Moyes had fielded Bowen at striker for West Ham’s trip to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup. He had tasked the £22m former Hull forward with occupying a central attacking role during their previous wins over Manchester United and City in the competition, as well.
Bowen had not scored against either Manchester outfit, with his four prior goals coming in the Premier League (3) and Europa League (1). He had also offered five of his six assists in the top-flight and one in UEFA action against Rapid Vienna.
The Englishman thrilled Hammers hero Cottee with his goal in north London to move third in the Irons’ scoring chart. Only Michail Antonio (7) and Said Benrahma (6) have fired home more often across all competitions so far this season.

Cottee lauded Bowen’s strike on Twitter after scoring against Tottenham, but also issued a one-word verdict on his campaign.
“Deserved goal! What a finish that was,” he wrote. “Bowen’s on fire. COYI .”
