Martinez was on loan from West Ham at Spanish side Rayo Majadahonda.

Rayo Majadahonda have confirmed on their official website that West Ham United loanee Toni Martinez has ripped up his season-long loan deal with the second-tier Spanish side and is set to return to east London.

Martinez, 21, joined Majadahonda on a season-long loan in the summer, but has struggled despite going down in history as the first player to score at this level for the Spanish club.

He opened Rayo’s account during a 2-1 loss to Real Zaragoza back in August, but that was one of just two goals he has scored in 18 games in all competitions for the loan side.

Martinez made his debut for the Hammers last season under David Moyes, but is well down the pecking order at the London Stadium with the likes of Lucas Perez, Javier Hernandez, Andy Carroll and Marko Arnautovic ahead of him.

Now, Martinez’s future in east London is in big doubt. Struggling at Rayo, his chances of getting first-team football with the Hammers is almost second to none. His contract in east London expires in the summer.

The likelihood is that West Ham send him out on loan, which is viable as the forward has not played for anyone other than the second-tier Spanish side. He has less than two weeks to find a new loan club.
