Toni Martinez has posted his delight on Twitter after being named among the West Ham United substitutes during his side’s loss to Watford on Sunday afternoon – and fans have reacted in frustration to his tweet.

The Hammers suffered a 2-0 loss to Watford at Vicarage Road, as Will Hughes and Richarlison found the back of the net for Marco Silva’s side with West Ham showing a lack of confidence in front of goal.

Heurelho Gomes produced a number of excellent saves to deny the likes of Cheikhou Kouyate and Marko Arnautovic, while Manuel Lanzini had an effort cleared off the line by a Watford defender.

Martinez, 20, saw his form finally recognised as he continues to score regularly for the club’s reserves, and was called up by David Moyes in the former Everton manager’s first game in charge.

However, the former Valencia ace failed to enter the field of play despite Moyes still having one change to use when the final whistle blew. Martinez stated his joy to make his “first Premier League experience” against Watford.

Hammers fans reacted to his tweet by stating that he should have started the match as the Hammers continue to reside in the bottom three of the Premier League, with one fan even claiming he should start on Friday as Andy Carroll “deserves to be nowhere near that side”.
