Toni Martinez has taken to Twitter to comment on the past few months after he completed a deadline day move away from West Ham United, joining Spanish second division side Real Valladolid on loan for the rest of the season.
The 20-year-old is one of the brightest starlets currently coming through at the London Stadium, and there were numerous calls throughout the campaign for Martinez to get a chance in the first-team as his stunning form for the under-23s continued.
And while he did get that chance in January, his appearance in the FA Cup defeat to Wigan – his third game for the senior side – would prove to be his last of the season for the Irons, with the youngster returning to his native Spain for the rest of the campaign.
The news did not go down well at all amongst the Hammers supporters when it was confirmed with David Moyes’ men also sanctioning the permanent exits of both Andre Ayew and Diafra Sakho during the window.
And commenting on social media for the first time since the move was confirmed, Martinez took to Twitter to pay tribute to his parent club and wish them luck for the rest of the season.
While the striker did not show his full quality and potential when given a chance in the first-team, it is no surprise that the Irons fans are less than impressed with the decision to allow him to leave on loan.
Moyes has few options to pick from up front for the rest of the campaign, so Martinez may have had a role to play in the first-team had he stuck around.
And while the decision was criticised when the move was confirmed, it will be nothing like the backlash the club will face if Martinez impresses out on loan while West Ham’s battle to beat the drop goes down to the wire.
