Warnock told Talksport he’d team up with former Rangers player and manager Ally McCoist at Ibrox.
Neil Warnock has told Talksport – perhaps jokingly – that he will take on the Rangers manager’s job before he retires.
Warnock, who is currently in charge of English Championship side Cardiff City, revealed that he often holidays on Scotland’s west coast islands, which prompted breakfast show presenter Alan Brazil to ask co-host Ally McCoist: “How old was the oldest manager of Rangers?”
Rangers are currently without a manager, nearly a month since the sacking of Pedro Caixinha.
And Warnock, who Celtic fan Brazil also accused of being a “Bluenose”, said: “Listen Alan, I tell you now, before I retire me and Ally will go and we’ll take that on just to shut you up!
Warnock’s Cardiff are currently second in the Championship, which suggests a move to Rangers is probably unlikely at this moment in time.
Nevertheless, the 68-year-old would perhaps be an attractive proposition for some, having won seven promotions in a management career which has spanned four decades.
McCoist, 55, spent 15 years at Rangers as a player and returned to Ibrox as Walter Smith’s assistant in 2007, eventually succeeding him as manager four years later.
