Steven Gerrard’s Rangers will travel to St Johnstone on Sunday hoping to be top of the Scottish Premiership table on Christmas Day.

Rangers have fallen to second in the Scottish Premiership table on Wednesday night after they failed to find a way past Hibernian’s inspired substitute goalkeeper Adam Bogdan at Easter Road.
But most Gers fans would have snapped your hand off if you told them that they would be just a point off the top of the Scottish Premiership table with just one game to go before Christmas Day.
Steven Gerrard’s side have made great strides this season, ensuring that Celtic might have a challenge on their hands as they aim to win the league for an eighth season in a row.
And Rangers have a chance to be top by the time the bells toll on Christmas morning if they beat St Johnstone on Sunday, provided that Celtic slip up at home to Dundee.
Speaking ahead of the game at McDiarmid Park, St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright has acknowledged the quality available to Gerrard – and has identified three Rangers players in particular who are real difference makers at this level.
“Rangers will think they could have taken more points away from home this season and hopefully we can make it a frustrating afternoon on Sunday,” the experienced Wright told the Daily Record.

“However, they have a lot of quality in their squad with guys such as Allan McGregor and Gareth McAuley, while Alfredo Morelos is still a real threat.”
McGregor returned to Ibrox from Hull City in the summer and, despite being 36, remains a class act in goal. McAuley is even older at 38 but the former West Brom stalwart has added steel and intelligence at the heart of the back-line when called upon.
Morelos, meanwhile, is arguably the most fearsome forward in Scotland and has 17 goals in all competitions.
