Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers faced St Johnstone last week in a friendly which did not end well for Steven Anderson.

Speaking to The Sun, St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright has criticised Rangers new boy Ryan Jack for a challenge which left Steven Anderson with a knee injury.

Rangers contested a behind-closed-doors friendly with the Saints this week as both Premiership sides prepare for Europa League qualifiers later on Thursday.

But it would appear as if the Ibrox new boy – who joined from Aberdeen at the start of June – was a bit over zealous during the affair as Wright accuses him of making a “pretty bad tackle” on the 31-year-old defender.

Although the St Johnstone boss acknowledges that it was not deliberate, Wright says it was a “poor one” from the 25-year-old and reveals that it does not look good for Anderson.

“Unfortunately Steven picked up a knee injury and has to go for a scan. I thought it was a pretty bad tackle from Ryan Jack. He didn’t mean it but it was a poor one,” he told The Scottish Sun.

“You hope to come through these pre-season games without picking up injuries but unfortunately we have.

“Obviously we’ll know more and have a clearer picture when we get the scan results. But right now it’s not looking good.”

It remains to be seen whether Anderson is fit to face FK Trakai in Thursday’s first-leg qualifier at McDiarmid Park. Rangers, meanwhile, are also in action as Pedro Caixinha’s side host Luxembourg outfit Progres Niederkorn at Ibrox on the same night.

Jack was one of four new Gers men to face St Johnstone, with Fabio Cardoso, Dalcio and Alfredo Morelos all featuring against their Premiership rivals and the Portuguese manager will hope that the quartet play a role against Progres.
