Tommy Wright comments on Glasgow Rangers-owned Michael O’Halloran

Michael O’Halloran joined Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers two years ago under Mark Warburton.

St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright has confirmed to BBC Sport that Rangers plan on keeping Michael O’Halloran at Ibrox for the rest of the season.

The 26-year-old joined the Saints on a half-season loan from Rangers in the summer and no agreement is in place for him to stay at McDiarmid Park beyond January.

Consequently, O’Halloran is expected to be included in Graeme Murty’s squad when the Gers visit Florida during the winter break.

The Ibrox forward, who joined two years for £500,000 (The Mail) under Mark Warburton, was on the periphery of things in Glasgow under Pedro Caixinha, but it remains to be seen what Murty’s plans for him are since replacing the Portuguese, who was sacked in October.

And Wright has suggested that Murty does want him back, but hasn’t completely given up hope of re-signing him.

“They do want to bring him back,” Wright told BBC Sport. “We just want to find out what plans Rangers have for him. I will try to speak to Graeme Murty.

“Rangers have indicated they want the player back but Michael can’t have the same situation – I know it is a different manager now – he had previously where he wasn’t in the first-team squad at all.

“I think if there is a chance Michael can be involved with Rangers’ first-team squad then he will want to go back. But I have told the chairman I want to keep him and hopefully that is the case.”
