Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers allowed Michael O’Halloran to leave on loan.

Tommy Wright has told The Scottish Sun that he is puzzled by Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha’s decision to publicly rule out Michael O’Halloran’s Ibrox return.

The 26-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements at Rangers this summer and sent to St Johnstone on a short-term loan deal.

However, O’Halloran has been a revelation since joining Wright’s side, scoring four Premiership goals in as many games for the Saints but he has no future at Ibrox under Caixinha.

Last month, the 46-year-old told The Daily Record that whatever happens, O’Halloran will not be returning to Rangers if he is manager in January.

And Wright tells The Scottish Sun that he finds such comments hard to understand.

“You would have to ask Pedro why he said what he did about Michael. It’s beyond me,” he told The Scottish Sun.

“Michael is an asset for Rangers and he basically ruled him out of going back. I find that difficult to understand.

“I don’t want to get into a ‘he said, they said’ but football is football. The pitch is the same and the rules are the same.”

O’Halloran was only in Glasgow for around 18 months after joining under Mark Warburton from St Johnstone in January 2016, for around £500,000 according to The Daily Mail.

He only managed three goals in 28 league appearances for Rangers, but his form during his second stint at McDiarmid Park suggests he was a fine forward.
