Tommy Fleetwood had a year to remember, finally picking up his first PGA Tour victory, and doing it on one of the biggest stages.

Fleetwood had to deal with more frustration in 2025, coming up short at both the Travelers and FedEx St Jude as he kept pushing for that breakthrough win.

But his perseverance paid off at the TOUR Championship, where he took home the title. He also played another key role for Team Europe at the Ryder Cup later in the year.

Still, despite those successes, Fleetwood’s search for a major continues. And heading into 2026, even he admits it is something that is very much on his mind.

With seven top-five finishes on the PGA Tour this season, along with a strong performance at the Ryder Cup and steady form on the DP World Tour, Fleetwood has shown exactly how good he can be.

Sitting at world number three now, there are not many left doubting his ability.

But as he looks ahead to next year, the Englishman knows that majors are what define careers.

Speaking to Bunkered, he opened up on his determination to improve in those key events: “Majors are very career-defining at the end of people’s career.

“You go through as good as the year was, I think there were certain aspects of disappointment, and I didn’t really contend at all in the majors, so I think that’s something that I need to look at.

“I‘ll look to work in a way that can keep me as consistent as possible throughout the whole year, and then there’s four events that definitely make a huge difference.

“We’ll see if we can find a better way of playing better in those events and give myself a chance come the Sundays in majors, because I didn’t really do that this year.”

Tommy Fleetwood backs himself to win the Masters in 2026

Every year we head to Augusta National, and the story always seems to centre around Rory McIlroy’s pursuit of the green jacket.

Now that the Northern Irishman has finally completed his Grand Slam, the focus may start to shift. Fleetwood is a name starting to get more attention, especially as his game suits Augusta so well.

The Englishman has played solid golf at The Masters over the years, but has never really been in serious contention. His third-place finish in 2024 remains his best showing so far.

Even so, heading into 2026 in top form, there is a sense that this could be Fleetwood’s moment.

If he can carry that momentum into Augusta, it would not be surprising if he follows up McIlroy’s win with a breakthrough of his own.
