Aston Villa are currently in 12th place in the Championship table, with Hull City in 10th spot.

Tommy Elphick has told the Hull Daily Mail that Hull City’s ‘togetherness’ has put them ahead of Aston Villa in the table this season.

Elphick was loaned out by Steve Bruce from Villa to Hull, and he went on to impress at the KC Stadium.

The centre-back played regular football at Hull, but Villa took note of his performances and recalled him.

Elphick has now come back into Dean Smith’s starting line-up at Villa Park, and it seems he could have an important role to play over the second half of the campaign.

Elphick may well be able to give Villa and advantage this weekend too, as Smith’s side are due to take on the Tigers.

Elphick will know Hull’s tactical plans well, but he thinks that their team spirit is just as important to their success as any other factor.

He said: “Together you can move mountains and this Hull group is together.

“There’s a reason they’re above us in the table and this is going to be as hard a game as we’ve had all season.

“We need to win to get to where we want to be. The pressure will be on us more than Hull but it’ll be two teams trying to win the game.

“Hull will be a team that works its socks off for the manager and, as a minimum, we have to match that.”

Hull are currently two places and one point ahead of Villa in the Championship table, with Nigel Adkins’ side in 10th spot.

Hull have won their last six league matches on the bounce, while Villa have been victorious just once in their previous seven outings.
