Tomer Hemed has reflected to The Scottish Sun on the ‘incredible save’ made by Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor on Tuesday night.

Celtic’s James Forrest made the headlines as his hat-trick helped Scotland to a 3-2 victory over Israel at Hampden Park.

But the Rangers star emerged no less of a hero than his Old Firm rival, denying Hemed’s last-gasp volley to preserve the victory for the hosts, who clinched a Euro 2020 playoff spot.

It was an exceptional save from the 36-year-old Gers star, who returned to Ibrox during the summer after spending time down South.

The Brighton-owned striker, who earns £20,000 per week [Spotrac], told The Scottish Sun: “I don’t know if it was a 100 per cent sitter, but it was a very, very good opportunity.

“But the Scotland keeper has made an incredible save. Even at 3-1 we felt we could get back into the game and I had the chance to draw us level.

“We didn’t play for the draw, but Scotland pushed us back. But if it wasn’t for the save of their goalkeeper, we would have met our objective and qualified.”

One wonders what Wes Foderingham must’ve thought about McGregor’s heroics.

On one hand, the English keeper will be happy for his Rangers team-mate, but success for McGregor means more bench time for him, so it has to be quite bittersweet for Foderingham, who has featured mostly in League Cup games under Steven Gerrard this season.
