The Celtic star looks to be a major doubt for tonight’s clash against St Mirren.

Tom Rogic has suffered a fresh reaction to the knee issue that has kept him out of large chunks of the season so far, The Scottish Sun report.

The Australian has been absent from 17 of Celtic’s 23 matches so far this season, struggling to get up to the fitness required to be an integral part of Neil Lennon’s side.

He did return recently for matches against Ross County and Aberdeen, replacing the injured Ryan Christie.

The attacking midfielder was one of the stand-outs at Pittodrie, with teammate Mohamed Elyounoussi calling his contribution ‘brilliant’ (The Scottish Sun).

However, Lennon has confirmed he is again battling an injury problem this week.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the Celtic boss said ahead of tonight’s match: “Leigh is back on the grass now. He has been doing some physical work with the fitness coaches and we hope he starts training again on Thursday.

“Tom (Rogic) has got a little bit of inflammation again around the knee. Christopher Jullien is fine, he had a little bit of a bug but has trained this morning.

“Olivier Ntcham (ankle) is back in training and obviously Ryan Christie comes back into contention as well (after two-game ban).”

Deep squad needed for upcoming schedule

Celtic will be hoping that Rogic’s problem is just a case of managing him through week to midweek games rather than a sign he is not ready to start matches.

As he’s shown, he is still a capable performer ready to come in and replace influential stars in case of injury or suspension.

The Hoops have six matches in three different competitions between now and the end of November, with an international break potentially taking energy out of players’ legs too.

That run, with a brutal December to follow, could require the full extent of Lennon’s deep squad to be used.
