Tom Rogic insists leaving Celtic was never on his mind

The talented midfielder has signed a new three-year deal with the club.

Tom Rogic has claimed that leaving Celtic never crossed his mind, in quotes published by the Herald Scotland.

The 23-year old signed a new deal this week, keeping him at the club until 2019, and he is confident he will be a success at Parkhead.

“I am very settled here and I am happy both on and off the pitch,” Rogic told the Herald. “You get to play club football here week in, week out and it is pretty special. I don’t take that for granted.

“I have been here for a while and I hope to be here for some time yet. Leaving was never something that crossed my mind.”

The promising Australian arrived from Central Coast Mariners three years ago but only really established himself as a vital first-team member last season after struggling with injuries and the transition into Scottish football.

He excelled in his second start of the season against Motherwell on Wednesday night, scoring two goals and impressing throughout, and will be keen to build on that performance and convince Brendan Rodgers he can be the man for the big occasions.

Celtic are well-stocked in midfield and Rogic will need to overcome some stiff competition if he is to force his way into the first XI.

Rogic’s new deal and upturn in form is more good news in what has been an excellent few weeks for the Hoops.

James Forrest has also signed a contract extension and is back to his devastating best, while Moussa Dembele is finally among the goals and Scott Sinclair has started like a house on fire.

Kolo Toure has already shown how much of an asset he will be at the back this season and all eyes will now be on Wednesday night’s Champions League play-off against Hapoel Be’er Sheva, with Celtic looking to finally return to the coveted group stages after a lengthy absence.
