Barnsley are being credited with interest in the Leeds United left-back.
Tom Pearce’s move from Leeds United to Barnsley would be a couple of years in the making.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that Barnsley have shown a ‘strong interest’ in the Leeds left-back and are ‘keen to sign him on a permanent deal’ before next week’s transfer deadline.
It is now, however, the first time that Pearce has caught the eye of those at Oakwell – at least according to a man who managed both Yorkshire clubs.
Speaking shortly after his move from Barnsley to Leeds in March 2018, Paul Heckingbottom told the official Whites website: “He (Pearce) is someone who I actually asked about when I was manager at Barnsley and we played the Under-23s here.
“I asked Danny Schofield (the Leeds academy coach), who I know well, and he mentioned him so I knew about him before I came.”
Heckingbottom later gave Pearce his senior debut at Leeds, but was sacked just months into his reign.
And the opportunities have since dried up for the former Everton talent, who is said to have had Premier League interest a year ago but ended last season on loan to Scunthorpe United.
The Barnsley manager, Daniel Stendel, is their second since Heckingbottom’s departure.
